Mark Baker

Mark Baker is the Editor of the English magazine "Woodturning" and has been an avid woodturner for many years. He has demonstrated and taught classes on turning in the USA and Europe. Part one of the book shows tools and supplies used along with finishing and woods. Part two includes about 50 projects divided into 5 catagories: Boxes, Bowls, Platters, Hollow Forms and Natural edge work. Each turning has drawings, comments, and tools used. Alternate designs for each project are also shown to give the turner more options. The first project in each section is shown being made from start to finish in detail. A gallery of turned work from well known turners finishes the book. This book is recommended for all those turners wanting to expand their horizons.

Mark is the former editor of Woodturning magazine in England, author of the popular book Woodturning Projects: A Workshop Guide and a woodturner for many years. In this book, he sets out to provide a practical guide to 150 woods from around the world that are useful to woodturners.

Fifty species of wood are covered in great detail including: drying suggestions, description, working qualities, and technical specifications. Excellent photos of each wood are shown including different figured patterns that may occur. A piece turned from each of the 50 species is shown as well. A brief description of 100 species of wood makes up the next section of the book. Each wood is pictured along with drying information, general characteristics, cutting suggestions and technical specifications.
